The Purgatorian Collection

The Subtle Knife

sdd.jpg

The second book of His dark materials has been completed. It is more complex than the first book, with a different pace for events. However, the twists and turns keep you hanging until the end when the story leaves you hanging waiting to know what happens next.

The story reminds me of my early days in blogging somehow, on my old blog, with references to parallel universes and multiple existence of oneself, which I still believe in. The story also goes into the darker side of Christian faith, with the eternal battle between the Authority, the fallen angels, humans, and of course the devil. There are several books which discuss this same subject, each with its own set of references. One that comes to my mind is Memnoch the Devil , part 5 of the Vampire chronicles by Anne Rice, which also eludes to this battle. Another one is the The Apocrypha: There Are Two Sides to Every Story

This part is for tooomz:

The story in the Subtle knife explains further the roles of Will and Lyra, dark matter, Lord Asriel, and more, so you should finish it and get to part 3.

I love books, havent’ read in a while though.. I need to start again!

I’m not sure I’d ready dark and gloomy books though…. but I’d never read all those slushy romantic books that jacqui reads :P
Read the book & write a review and I’ll see if I’ll read it :D

ananyah, I do not write reviews, I just mention that I read a book with some information. If you looked back in my archive you can find more books I read, such as the diceman and kingdom of fear. So just go pick one of them and read, won’t cost you much :)

Caff, I will have to pick you since your small and smart.

Taz, read the trilogy

melikes to read … but not sci-fi and fantasy. I actually haven’t tried any .. ‘The Time Traveller’s Wife’ is the farthest I went in sci-fi. This looks interesting … a couple of friends recommended me some Terry Pratchet books.

methinks ’tis not bad at all to try sometime ..

scarlo, you have to read the the three books.

The book you mentioned I stopped half way, but tooomz says I should continue with it.

You will like this trilogy as it has many creatures that might remind you of your inner diva :P

My inner diva’s dead. She turned out to be a bisexual, which is very perverted, and my good selft did not accept that, so I choked her to death.

And yes, you *should* finish that book. Perhaps you didn’t like it because it was a bit more realistic than sci-fi? Or you might have thought of the romantic aspect as cheesy? In any case, you should read it to the end. Your inner-slut will probably cry a small river or two, so you’ve ben warned.

And where do you get these books from? Which of our five bookstore sells it? :-

Comment by ScarlO — 12, April, 2006 @ 5:09 am

Caff :)
Scarlo, I do not have an inner slut either. What I do have is an inner purg that will come after you.

The book can be bought at any online bookstore. I have not bought any books in kuwait for a while, but would not hurt to check Virgin or Family bookstore as the books are not new anyways.

I went straight to The Amber Spyglass from Northern Lights. It was kind of confusing, but I wrapped my head around it. I find the gay angels really funny.

You are= You’re.
