The Purgatorian Collection

Inspired by Mark’s post I will share some secrets spots for you world travelers who might not get the chance to sit in first/business lounges.

* Bangkok International Airport.

If you are flying Kuwait Airways to Bangkok, it usually lands at a gate towards one end of the Airport, once you get out, you will find a toilet, empty and clean, and opposite to it is a big and empty smoking room. If you have been to that Airport before you would know such things are hard to find. This is all located on the lower floor. If you turn right and go straight, 8 minutes walk you get to the counter where you can get your boarding pass for connecting flights, and then you can go up by escaltor to the top floor for shopping and massage. However, more hot spots can be found above. For smoking, you turn right, then right again and you walk straight past the Qantas lounge, a bit after it you find a bathroom located on your right. It is 99 % empty, cleaner than the rest, and has a water hose inside the toilet. One word of advice though, they do not have towels or tissues to dry your hands, but there is toilet tissue. If you decide you want to smoke after using the bathroom, you can walk straight ahead (or turn right if you exit bathroom) then just before the end of this side and check control you will see a big room on your right for smokers. This is the best place, its huge, good air suction and has big tv, behind is it a coffee shop and massage place (do not use it all old ladies).

If you want to do shopping, good prices on electronics and some “items”. The fresh juice is good, you will find many booths along the way if you turn left after coming up from escalator. Mid way in this side of the airport is a small booth for pictures. Do not let a chance pass by without taking your picture with Ronaldo or Harry Potter.

* London Heathrow Terminal 4.

Maybe many know about this, but in case you do not, if you want quiet and rest, you can head all the way down towards gate 3 and before it you find a room called the quiet room. Its the old business lounge from ages ago converted into a place for passengers to rest. I use it each time, its comfy, quiet and hidden.

*Schiphol Terminal 2 - KLM and BA side

For smoking, go right when the walkway forks (close to Pizza place and Pub) and head all way down before it turns left you see coffee place, its quiet, has many chairs and you can smoke. On opposite side you will find chairs with some kids table, mostly empty, you can relax there also. Do not forget to get yourself a “hand toy” after passport control.
